DO YOU DELIVER BOTH POWER AND SAIL? Yes, our business is 75% power and 25% sail, rarely anything smaller than 40 feet. Our largest delivery was 120 feet.
WHAT ABOUT BREAKDOWNS OR WEATHER DELAYS? We always try to ensure that we start the trip on a good weather window so we can step aboard and go. If there is a breakdown that we cannot deal with on board we will contact you as soon as possible so you can make a decision whether to interrupt the voyage and our contract. All unanticipated costs are borne by the yacht owner.
IS ADDITIONAL INSURANCE NECESSARY? Typically no. Most policies have a permissive operator clause that will allow a licensed captain to take the vessel anywhere within the policy's navigation limits. In all cases we will submit a resume for preapproval.
WHAT IF SOMEONE GETS HURT? A very good question. The Jones Act gives specific redress rights to anyone deemed crew that is hurt while working on a US owned vessel, however we are willing to sign a waiver of liability and screen our crew members as best as possible. In our 30 year career we have been fortunate to avoid serious injury.
HOW DO YOU HANDLE PAYMENT? Regardless of whether it is by the day or flat rate, we will collect 50% of our fees and estimated crew costs prior to departure. If fuel will need to be purchased then a credit card or cash will need to be supplied. Final payment should be made immediately upon arrival, with an inspection at your option.
DO YOU TAKE CREDIT CARDS? Yes but there is a 3% fee.
CAN I GO ALONG AND LEARN? Sometimes, we handle this on a case by case basis.
WHAT IS YOUR TYPICAL ROUTE? Our most common trips are SoCal to NorCal (and vice-versa) or the Baja Bash from Cabo to San Diego. We literally wrote the book on this trip.
